Graduation Party — Haapsalu

A graduation party in Haapsalu happens in late May or early June, when the evening stays light past ten and guests drift between the hall and the terrace without coats. The room has to work for speeches at eight and dancing at midnight, which means the sound system cannot be set for one and tolerated for the other.

Most venues here are civic halls or hired function rooms with high ceilings and hard floors — acoustically live, and unforgiving if the PA is guessed. We rig for the room as it is, not as we wish it were, and the difference is audible from the first welcome speech.
